Assistance for Educational Entities

Assistance for education entities is available through funds such as the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund, Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund, and the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. To learn more about these funds, please see below.

The Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund:

  • Consists of $2.95 billion for governors to provide emergency support through grants to local educational agencies and institutions of higher education most significantly impacted by COVID-19.
  • Grants are awarded at the Governor’s discretion.
  • South Carolina’s Share is $48 million.

Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund:

  • Consists of $13 billion for state educational agencies to cover expenses associated with COVID-19.
  • Grants are awarded at the Superintendent of Education’s discretion.
  • South Carolina’s share is $216 million.

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund:

  • Consists of $13 billion to higher education institutions to cover expenses due to changes in instructional delivery associated with COVID-19.
  • Fifty percent must be used to provide emergency financial aid to students (food, housing, course materials, technology, child care and healthcare).
  • Grants are made directly to the institutions.
  • South Carolina’s share is $185 million.
